Controller - Falls Church, Virginia

Having grown revenues and profits for 10 consecutive years, we are seeking a dynamic, high-energy, results-oriented Controller to lead our Finance & Accounting (F&A) function, with the potential to grow into a broader role in Operations as a Director, Vice President, and/or Chief Financial Officer. The right candidate is hands-on, a self-starter, enjoys multi-tasking, is flexible, and is passionate about the opportunity to work with highly motivated, skilled professionals in a small business environment. To date, the F&A function has been outsourced, so this is an opportunity to build your own team and grow along with a fast-paced, successful business; the position reports to our Vice President – Operations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The individual will be responsible for the overall effectiveness and results of the F&A function, to include:
- Oversight of all F&A operations to include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Payroll, Timesheet, Expenses, project administration, regular and ad-hoc reporting (internal and external), etc.
- Preparation and submission of timely invoices to a wide range of government and commercial customers, to include Fixed-Price, Time & Materials, and Cost-Type invoices. Active management of Accounts Receivable to maximize cash flow
- Timely preparation of monthly financial statements to include Income Statements (P&L), Balance Sheet, and Cost breakdowns by project, account, division, and by cost pools (fringe, overhead, G&A, etc.)
- Management of all F&A policies and procedures, in particular where processes require hand-offs between the F&A organization and other parts of the business. Ensure that all processes are documented and proactively communicated across the organization
- Ensure transactions and processes are DCAA/FAR compliant; prepare annual DCAA rate submissions, Incurred Cost Submission, and 8(a) Annual Report to SBA
- Accurate and timely entry of all General Ledger transactions, to include all allocation entries and accruals, such as depreciation, monthly or period close accruals or adjustments, fixed-price revenue recognition models and amounts, and other transactions as needed. Provide oversight to timely conclusion of month-end close
- Perform monthly account reconciliations on bank accounts, credit card accounts, and company line of credit
- Participate in and prepare annual operating budgets, and perform periodic variance analysis
- Support price proposal submissions and discussions regarding pricing factors and cost/benefit tradeoffs
- Support outside audit firm in annual audit process
Job Qualifications
- Four year Accounting Degree required; Graduate degree preferred
- Hands-on, expert knowledge of Deltek GCS accounting system and MS Office/Outlook (particularly MS Excel) required
- Proficiency in other business tools, to include Salesforce, Cognos Reporting, SharePoint, preferred
- 7 – 10 or more years of experience performing financial cost accounting for a Government Contractor
- Management experience in all phases of F&A including A/R, A/P, G/L, Timesheets, Payroll, etc. Previous track record in creating/building F&A organizational structures and processes
- Deep understanding of applicable regulations and policies, GAAP, FAR, etc.
- Experience with various federal organizations that oversee and regulate government professional services company accounting and contracts, to include SBA, DCAA, DCMA, GSA (schedules), etc.
- Job Cost experience including preparation of complex, multi-year cost proposals preferred
- Financial Reporting, Budgeting, Forecasting and Analysis Skills
- Knowledge across Suntiva’s primary service areas, to include federal acquisition consulting, IT strategy and governance, program management, and organizational performance
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills
- Ability to create and maintain formal and informal networks, and to lead through influence versus needing to be “in charge."
